Lesson Plan 3: Caring for Animals
How does this fit into the curriculum? Life processes and living things (SC2) says that pupils should be taught to ask questions ('how' why' 'what will happen if') and decide how they might find answers to them (2a) and how to treat animals with care and sensitivity (2e).
Teachers' Note: Split the class into pairs or small groups and ask each group to choose a different companion animal. You could write a list on the board for them to choose from or you could assign an animal to each group. They will then need to discuss all the things that their chosen animal needs to be happy and healthy. The pupils will need to take notes. When they have discussed all the issues, one member of the group will tell the class what they have discussed.
